Gayle Martin Sanders et Ron Logan Sutherland firent connaissance à la fin des années 70. Malgré des parcours très différents (Sanders était diplômé en architecture et publicité tandis que Sutherland était diplômé d’ingénierie électrique), ils partageaient une passion commune pour la musique. Ils décidèrent de concevoir ensemble une enceinte électrostatique (technologie connue pour ses exceptionnelles qualités mais également pour ses manques dans le grave) capable de produire des basses convaincantes et avec un design lui permettant de trouver place chez les particuliers. Leur premier prototype fit mis au point en 1980. En 1982, Sanders et Sutherland présentèrent leur concept révolutionnaire au Consumer Electronics Show de Chicago. Ils furent immédiatement récompensés par le CES Design and Engineering Award. La production commença en 1985 et la croissance de Martin Logan fut rapide. En 1989 et 1990, Inc. Magazine désigna Martin Logan comme l’une des « 500 fastest-growing privately held companies in the United States ». Martin Logan est aujourd’hui une société mondialement renommée pour la qualité de ses produits et leur design sans égal.

La gamme actuelle fonctionne toujours selon les mêmes principes fondateurs avec une association plus aisée avec les électroniques grâce à des technologies hybrides. A l’écoute, on atteint des sommets avec une transparence absolue et une précision diabolique sur toute l’étendue du spectre. Le design d’une enceinte Martin Logan ne laisse jamais indifférent : c’est une œuvre d’art contemporaine au design très épuré et d’une extrême élégance, qualités que l’on retrouve chez un très grand Bordeaux à maturité comme un Cheval Blanc 1947.
